Meteosat second generation-2 (MSG-2) weather satellite being prepared for launch in December 2005. The satellite is being mated on top of its Ariane 5 launcher in the Final Assembly Building (BAF) of the Ariane Launch Complex number 3 (ELA-3) at the Guiana Space Centre, Europe's space port in Kourou, French Guiana. MSG-2 is the second of four MSG satellites. It was launched on top of an Ariane 5 rocket on 21 December 2005. It transmits detailed meteorological images to Earth every 15 minutes. It is a joint project by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European organisation for the exploitation of meteorological satellites (EUMETSAT).
