The Primary Schools,the lower grades of the Public or English German Schools andthe Colored Schools, over which my supervision extends, are nowin a remarkably good condition. The work of the past year hasbeen fairly well done. The teachers have generally been faithfuland earnest in their efforts to acquire and practice pure educa-tional methods.

The work of the past year hasbeen fairly well done. The teachers have generally been faithfuland earnest in their efforts to acquire and practice pure educa-tional methods. Some still adhere tenaciously to cram andconcert teaching, which to them gives satisfactory results. These,a few years ago, constituted the majority. To-day they are fewin number. The time has come when the A. B. C. schoolmarmand the chanting choristers are remembered only as historicalcharacters. The revised course of study, together with the redivision ofthe classes into yearly grades, adopted by the Board just priorto the summer vacation,
