The Hoysaleshvara Temple was built from 1121, during the reign of the Hoysala King Vishnuvardhana. The highly decorated walls of the temple depict scenes from the Hindu epics, the Mahabharata and Ramayana, as well as animals, scenes of warfare and Hoysala society. It is a popular tourist destination.
