The National Gallery and Nelson's Column, Trafalgar Square, London, c1910. The National Gallery, established in 1824, houses an internationally important art collection. Nelson's Column was designed by William Railton to commemorate Admiral Horatio Nelson's victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The statue of Nelson (1758-1805) was erected on the column in 1843. In the centre is the church of St Martin in the Fields. Postcard.
