The Hereford Herdbook was first published in 1846 by T. C. Eyton, and in 1884 the Hereford Cattle Breeders' Association of England was organized, and took over the publication of the herdbook, of which about thirty volumes have been published. T. L. Miller of Illinois pub- lished in 1881 the first American Hereford Herdbook, and the same year the American Hereford Breeders' Association was organized.
