Lumicyano fingerprint detection. A handprint appears under blue light after treatment with a fluorescent substance used in detecting latent fingerprints on objects from crime scenes. Items are subjected to Lumicyano cyanoacrylate fuming in a heated cabinet. Cyanoacrylate is warmed to produce fumes that react with the invisible fingerprint residues to form a fluorescent polymer on the fingerprint ridges, which glows under blue light. This method is non-destructive, allowing any DNA in the prints to remain intact.
