The Thomson-Houston Electric Company was formed in the USA in 1883, and Thomson's electricity meter was developed in around 1889. It was a watt-hour meter, indicated here by the letters 'HW'. Artwork from 'Electricite' (1911) by Max de Nansouty, part of the 'Les merveilles de la science' series of 1867-1891 by Louis Figuier.
