Coronary angioplasty surgery. information label from a packet containing a balloon catheter and stent (wire mesh tube) to be used in an angioplasty on a patient's coronary artery. Angioplasty is a technique used to mechanically widen a narrowed or obstructed blood vessel. A balloon catheter is used to guide the stent into place in the artery. Once in place the balloon is inflated to expand the stent and open the blood vessel. The balloon is then deflated and removed, leaving the stent behind.
