Swallowtail butterfly (Papilio ajax). This is plate 78 from 'Natural History of the Coleoptera and Lepidopterous Insects' (1804) by the US entomologist and ornithologist John Abbot (1751-1840). Abbot worked in the British colony of Virginia from the early 1770s, and later settled in Georgia, USA.
