It is developed into a variety of forms on the same in-sect, e. g., into skin, hair, scales, shell, ring membranes,&c., according to the part of the body on which it isfound. In the abdomen, and sometimes in the thorax, therings of the body are separated from each other by athin skin or membrane, but in the head, and also attimes in the thorax, they are merged together.
