WASHINGTON, DC, United States — A detailed mosaic depicting the Resurrection of Jesus Christ adorns the half-domed ceiling above the altar in the Resurrection Chapel of the National Cathedral in Washington, DC. The chapel, built in the Norman style, features intimate spaces with semi-circular arches and lower ceilings. This mosaic, created by artist Hildreth Meirère, is part of a series illustrating Jesus' post-Resurrection appearances, with additional mosaics designed by Rowan and Irene LeCompte on the side walls.

The Resurrection Chapel in Washington National Cathedral is distinguished by its Norman architectural style, featuring semi-circular arches and lower ceilings with half-domed vaulting. The chapel's focal point is a striking mosaic by Hildreth Meirère on the half-domed ceiling above the altar, depicting the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. This chapel houses the cathedral's only tile mosaics, which narrate Jesus' resurrection and post-resurrection appearances. Side wall mosaics, designed by Rowan and Irene LeCompte, illustrate six key post-Resurrection events, including Jesus' encounters with Mary Magdalene, his disciples, and Thomas. Rowan LeCompte also designed over 40 stained glass windows throughout the cathedral. The chapel's intimate space, combined with its rich artistic elements, creates a unique environment for reflection and worship within the larger Gothic-style cathedral. These mosaics serve both as beautiful artworks and as tools for religious education, bringing biblical narratives to life in vivid detail.
