Neurospin MRI research. Researcher monitoring a test subject being scanned in an advanced magnetic resonace imaging (MRI) machine. Results of the scans are seen on the screen at left. This is the 3T MRI scanner at Neurospin, one of the most advanced MRI research centres in the world. The 3T designation refers to the magnetic field strength of 3 Tesla. This is an extremely strong magnetic field, and hence the technique is known as ultra high-field magnetic resonance imaging. The high magnetic field strength allows detailed examination of the brain and brain disorders. Neurospin also has a 7T scanner, and there are plans for an scanner. Neurospin was founded in 2006, and is located near Paris, France. Photographed in 2007.
