Memorial to crew of aircraft which crashed at this site while carrying out an airdrop to snowbound communities in 1947, near Onecote, Staffordshire
On 13th February 1947, a Halifax RT922 aircraft of 47 Squadron Royal Air Force, crashed adjacent to this cairn during a mission to airdrop supplies to the snow-bound communities of Grindon and the surrounding area. The crew of five and two press photographers who were passengers, were all killed.
