This species is very similar to cautum; the eyes are moredensely and longer haired, and the hairs are brown; epistoma with abroader black middle stripe and with some black hairs above at thesides of the antennæ; occiput all black-haired above. Thorax withthe greyish stripes abbreviated behind the middle, but there is nogreyish space in front of scutellum; the yellow spots on the sidesreaching near to each other; thorax and scutellum darker haired thanin cautum, the hairs nearly all blackish. Pleura black-haired aboveand behind. Abdomen more short ovate, more arched and morepointed than in cautum, with the fifth segment much smaller andcurved evenly downwards; abdomen is marked in the same way butthe yellow bows are more narrow, more curved and almost not Chrysotoxum. 573 widened towards the sides, and abdomen is thus more black; it isalso more shining, especially towards the apex; it is haired mainly asin cautum but the hairs just at the basal corners are black.
