The new cabinet in the garden of Downing Street, 24th August 1931. By 1931 the economy was in crisis, both in Britain and around the world, with the onset of the Great Depression. Baldwin and the Conservatives entered into a coalition with Labour Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald. This decision led to MacDonald's expulsion from his own party.
