Nellie Bly, American journalist


Elizabeth Cochrane (1864-1922), American investigative journalist, best known by her pen name Nellie Bly. Bly exposed the poor conditions at the New York City Asylum on Blackwell's Island, New York City, USA for the The New York World newspaper. For this assignment, she went undercover and pretended to be a mentally ill patient in order to be put into the asylum. Bly is also known for travelling around the world in 72 days, taking a journey similar to Phileas Fogg in Jules Verne's book Around The World in Eighty Days.
