View of the tourist harbor of Porto Maurizio with a fisherman fishing with a rod on the quay and moored luxury yacht, Imperia, Liguria, Italy
Probably of Roman origins, Porto Maurizio was in the Middle Ages an autonomous Municipality, even if bound by close covenants of alliance and dependence to the near and powerful Republic of Genoa, known throughout the Mediterranean for the production and especially the trade in olive oil. After the Napoleonic period it was annexed to Piedmont and then merged into the Kingdom of Italy. In 1923 it merged with Oneglia and other smaller centers in the new municipality of Imperia. Carefully revisited and expanded, the historical bay of Porto Maurizio has become one of the largest marinas in the Mediterranean and offers to boaters, since the spring of 2010, the date of completion of the works at sea, the possibility to accommodate up to 1300 boats (from 5 to 90 meters).
