This is hardly to be wondered at, however, when we remem-ber the trying conditions to which trees were subjected during the winter of 1898 and1899, when the weather was extremely cold for a long time, and there was little or nosnow on the ground for root protection. Raspberries. In the spring of 1899 a large new plantation of raspberries was set out, containingabout 60 varieties. This plantation has made a remarkably fine growth, and should bein fall bearing next year. Quite a number of the most productive varieties fraited [61J.
