Detail of the Satyr Cradling the Infant Dionysos in the Munich Glyptothek. See description for more info.

This statue depicts the infancy of Dionysos, who was raised in the wilderness by satyrs in order to protect the young god from the wrath of Hera. It is a Roman copy in marble of a Greek original (now lost), dating to the late fourth century BC. The statue type is Lysippan in style and may be a work of the school of Lysippos or even of the master himself.
