Black Nab

Saltwick Bay is a north east facing bay situated 1 mile south of Nab is on the left of the bay & Black Nab is on the right. Black Nab is a submarine-shaped outcrop (when viewed from the North) of hard shale that has resisted erosion better than the surrounding rocks. It is iconic because of its shape. Lying near the Nab is what remains of the wreck of the Admiral Von Tromp. This was a fishing vessel from Scarborough which came aground during a storm in 1976 with the loss of 2 lives. What remains of the wreck can be found in a hole in the shelf.
