Adjacent to Loch Garten is the famous RSPB Osprey Centre, where an osprey's nest has been monitored and protected for many years. The public are able to view the nest and see the ospreys during the breeding season, from the hide at the Visitors Centre. Loch Garten is part of the Abernethy Forest National Nature Reserve, which includes the largest area of ancient Caledonian Pine Forest, where the indigenous Scots Pine grows, in the country.
