Vertical Landscape with the Ruins of the Temple of Venus and Roma, from the series 'Ruinarum variarum fabricarum delineationes pictoribus caeterisque id genus artificibus multum utiles', ca. 1572, Etching, Plate: 7 1/4 × 5 11/16 in. ( × cm), Lambert Suavius (Netherlandish, ca. 1510–by 1576), Vertical plate with a side view of the ruins of the Temple of Venus and Roma on the Velian Hill in Rome. The building is recognizable by its prominent apsis that still stands today. The angle of the building, as seen from the South, varies from most other early modern depiction, and was likely based on an in situ observation of the structure
