Aosta, Valle d’Aosta, Italy: one of two seated female supporters flanking a stone sundial inscribed in Latin and French at the eastern end of the stately neo-classical Municipio, Hôtel de Ville or Town Hall. The Municipio, in Piazza Emile Chanoux, was built in 1839 to the designs of Michelangelo Bossi when the city was still under significant Gallic influence. Aosta is now the capital of northern Italy’s Valle d’Aosta region.
