Kathmandu, Nepal. Buddha Statue at the Swayambhunath Temple Complex, Demonstrating Bhumisparsa Mudra Gesture.

This is called the Bhumisparsa Mudra Gesture--left hand in the lap, palm upward, right hand over the right knee, fingers extended, slightly touching the ground. The gesture, "calling earth to witness", symbolizes enlightenment, imperturbability, and steadfastness. This statue on the grounds of the Swayambhunath temple complex is called the Dhyani Buddha Aksobhya.
