GALEN FOREWORD The need of education on the subject ofdress is evident to every conscientiousteacher of physical culture. Some years ago under the inspirationof a class of intelligent women I under-took to solve the problem of undercloth-ing for women; to find or design under-garments that would allow freedom whilegiving the necessary support and avoid-ing the slouchy, bulky aspect so objection-able to those who care for personal ap-pearance. Investigating garments already on themarket designed with some regard forhealth, I found them either clumsy orimpracticable because too difficult forhome manufacture or too expensive whenmade to order; others advertised ashealth garments proved a delusion andsnare.
