French & Flemish tapestries of similar subject are based on the "Italian Comedy" or "Fêtes Venitiennes". However, Bradshaw produced a totally new suite of scenes based on pictures by Watteau. This scene is partly based on either "Diavolo Player" or "L'Indifferent" at the Louvre (man offering flower in center), "Départ pour Cythère" (woman on ground in center), Pater's "Colin Maillard" at Hertford House (couple on left) & Watteau's "Mariée de Village". Inscription is not apparent in photograph.
