AMPUTATION AT THE LOWER EXTREMITY. 539 The After-treat III ctit.—Not a little of the success in amputation of thethigh depends on the after-treatment of the stump. It should he carefullysurrounded with antise])tic gauze l)0und in place with sufficient firmness tosupport the soft parts, eliminate dead spaces, and equalize the circulationof the stump.
