Model of the Breda fortress, at the end of 17th century. The war that raged from 1672 in the Republic forced the rulers to draw attention to land defense. The outdated fortifications around cities were modernized at the burden of Stadholder Willem III. The maquette shows the city of Breda with the fortifications that were laid out in 1682. The houses in the model are carved from wood. The city walls are made of clay.
