I hope sufferers from the Gout will nothesitate to try them, as my case, which was ofgreat severity and long standing, was completelycured. Hildred O. G. Dana. Dropsy is the result of such disorders as dis-ease of the Liver, Fever and Ague, Inflamma-tions, Rheumatism, and Gout. In the abdomen,it is called Ascites; in the head, Hydrocephalus;in the chest, Hydrothorax j and, near the surface. oft the body, (Edema. Whatever causes an ob- iruction of the blood will produce it. To getrid of the accumulation of fluid, which is oftenof a vast quantity, the kidneys should be calledinto action by the use of diuretic medicines;but if, as is often the case, the kidneys aredisordered, the outlet for the fluid should bedirected through the bowels. For this purpose,large and frequent doses of purgative medicines,such as Ayers Pills, are highly useful andimportant, and should be employed. This canalways be done with safety. The skin, also,must be kept active by wearing flannels next tothe body, and by frequent warm baths. Tonicscontaining iron and bark will be necessary tokeep up the general health.
