A steep pathway leads throug pine forest in the Taurus Mountains to the burning fires at the Mount Chimaera or Yanartas near the village Çıralı at the Mediterranean coast in the province of Antalya in Southwestern more than 2500 years a gas mainly containing methane emits from the ground and is burning since then in small eternal flames attracting some tourism. The source of the gas seems to be mostly are speculations that some Ruthenium in the rock catalysis the production of this methane and some admixed hydrogen. Ein steiler Pfad führt durch die Kiefernwälderdes Taurus-Gebirges zu den brennenden Feuern von Chimaira in der Nähe des Dorfes Çıralı an der Küste des Mittelmeers in der Provinz Antalya im Südwesten der Türkei. Seit mindestens 2500 Jahren strömt dort ein Gas aus der Erde, das vor allem aus Methan besteht und seit dieser Zeit mit etliichen Flammen brennt. Ein großer Teil dieses Gases entsteht vermutlich geologisch und nicht biologisch. Möglicherweise katalysiert ein gewisser Gehalt von Ruthenium im Untergrund die Bildung dieses Methans und auch des in geringeren Konzentrationen enthaltenen Wasserstoffs.
