. On April 16, 2016 the Rocky Mtn. fire was discovered in the South District of Shenandoah National Park. Because the fire was in a remote area and grew quickly and intensely, firefighters pulled back to a safe defensible locations to contain the fire. The park called in more people and equipment to fight it, including the Type 1 Southern Area Red Incident Management Team. The fire was manage in unified command with the Virginia Division of Forestry. Photo of smoke conditions.
