The fetus is defined as the product of conception after 8 weeks to birth. Between the 8th week, when the fetus measures 3 cm and weighs 2 g, and the 40th week (delivery), the fetus increases in size 15 fold (measuring about 51 cm at birth). Its weight increases 1700 fold (about 3400 g at birth). The fetus swims in an amniotic fluid and is connected to the mother via the umbilical cord. The fetus is generally in the characteristic \fetal position\ with the legs folded up. Here the fetus is about 8 month old
