The Standing Stones of Callanish, near Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides, of Scotland are an Iron Age stone monument circle of stones and monoliths, the erection of which is believed to have begun about 3,500 BC. In these images they appear as mysterious as their origins suggest. Scottish mist and fog enhance the sense of mystery surrounding their origins and original use. Of the three sets of standing stones, and monoliths, near Callanish, this set are the most outstanding.
