Rose ‘Kiftsgate’, the commonly cultivated clone of Rosa filipes

‘Kiftsgate’ is the clone of R. filipes usually cultivated; beyond the fact that it came from Bunyard’s nursery, its origin is not known. The original plant at Kiftsgate Court, Gloucestershire grows mightily into a large beech tree. This is perhaps the most rampant of all roses, producing clouds of small flowers with a wonderful scent; it needs a large tree to cover, if it is to develop to its full potential, or it can hide an ugly building. Hardy to -20°F (-29°C), Zone 5.
