Their brains were smooth and singularly smallfor such ponderous bodies. All mammalian brains of the time werediminutive and simple, compared with later forms (see Fig. 430), but THE EOCENE PERIOD, 233 in the Dinoceras, brute-mass and low brain-power seem o have reachedtheir mammalian climax, much as they had reached a a earlier climaxin the monster reptiles.
