White Egret catches a nap in the late afternoon as it stands protectively over its chicks playing behind the bars of their crib.

White Egret, Ardea alba, parents are very protective of their young chicks in the nest. Chicks at this age are not left alone. A parent stands guard until its mate arrives with a fresh supply of food for the chicks and then leaves to forage for itself This parent is catching a snooze while the chicks play inside the safety of their twig barrier but will be alert at the first sign of trouble. I find the sleepy bird very faithful and diligent.
