Nuclear explosion. View of the nuclear explosion code-named Badger at the Nevada Testing Site, USA, on 18 April 1953. This atomic bomb was detonated in a tower and had the same explosive force as 23 thousand tonnes (kilotonnes) of TNT. It was detonated as part of Operation Upshot-Knothole, an American programme which tested systems for atomic bombs.
