The mothballed Leamside railway line as it passes across the Victoria Viaduct, Washington, North East England UK

The Leamside line runs from Pelaw to Tursdale Junction on the East Coast Main Line. It offers a parallel route to the ECML through County Durham and Tyne and Wear. The line is currently mothballed, but there are regular bids to re-open the line to provide an alternative to the ECML and to serve the communities along the railway. This shot shows the line in Washington, just before it crosses the river Wear on the Victoria viaduct.
