Caption: Dege, Sichuan, China - Aug 2002. A Tibetan Khampa woman wearing a Stetson cowboy hat. The Khampas are true cavaliers, an identity passed down through centuries. Once called the 'Gentlemen Brigands' for the fear of God they would instill into passing travellers, they roamed the grasslands on small Himalayan ponies. Although renouncing their brigand ways, the Khampas still remain cowboys.
