The Os, or Mouth, of the insect is provided withBeven ordinary organs, differently modified in the twogreat divisions of masticators^ or chewing insects, andsuckers^ or sucking insects. These are, 1st, the upperlip (labrum) ; 2d, the lower lip (labium); 3d, labial andother palpi, or feelers ; 4th, the upper jaws (mandibles);5th, under jaws (maxillae); 6th, the tongue (lingua);and, 7th, the pharynx.
