The fortress of Monrupino (Trieste) stands on top of a hill visible from both Italy and Slovenia. Initially a hillfort from the Bronze Age, then the scene of clashes between the Romans and Histrians, it has always been an important refuge for the people of the area even at the time of the barbarian invasions.
