We felt that another walk in this direction was impera-tive, if it were only for a chance of catching sight of a girl whowas talking merrily with her neighbours at the door of her house inthe village of Amer-ou-Zaid. She certainly was the most beauti-ful girl we met in the country, rich-complexioned, dark-eyed, withhandsome features, and a supple graceful figure. Alas ! we neversaw her again.
