A heavy French target rifle, circa 1835 Two-stage barrel in 18 mm calibre, octagonal then round and faceted after a girdle, with gold-inlaid, square muzzle and microgroove rifling. Dovetailed front sight and mounted peep sight. English flintlock with rainproof pan, frizzen on rollers, double set trigger and cock safety. The florally engraved lock plate signed "SAML & C. SMITH PRICES ST. LONDON". Carved walnut stock (crack and flaw as well as worm damage on the forestock) with horn nose. Extended butt carved with hunting scenes.
