Traditional mud cloth, now called Bogolanfini depicting the mosque of DjennŽ, Mali, with a knight in the foreground. Women carry baskets and wood; a man can also be seen and at the bottom left a boy with a flag, possibly French. The use of mud as a painting pattern on cotton is typical of the Bamana (Bamara) of Mali, centred on the Beledougou area north and northeast of Bamako. Women spin the locally-grown cotton, then men weave long bands that are joined together. Made in a traditional manner for the tourist market.
