PREFACE. ^o*K< In the year 1843, the author of the following Tables published a work that;embraced a series of Exchange Tables, both of Sterling and Federal money, at everyrate of Premium from one eighth of one per cent, to ten per cent., by eighths. In 1848, Mr. Joseph M. Price published Tables of Sterling Exchange only. Butin his preface he points out a mode of calculation by which amounts in FederalExchange can be obtained. This, however, requires more labour than is desirable. The following year, Mr. Robert M. Folger published a series of Exchange Tables,both Federal and Sterling, which he carried out by eighths to twelve and seven eighthsper cent. In his preface he says, an inspection of its pages will demonstrate it tobe an improvement on a
