Wag of Forse Iron Age long house, Caithness: view NNE through entrance passage. Remains of stone pillar-&-lintel roof supports.
Wag of Forse, Caithness: view NNE through entrance passage of an Iron Age long house with the remains of stone pillars & lintels which supported a roof. A pillared long house 12m long, rectangular with rounded corners, the roof may have been of flagstones & turf. Wag is a local name, possibly derived from the Gaelic for 'little cave'. Part of a multi-phase settlement on moorland & farmland between Forse House & Upper Latheron. The passage was paved & provided with stone door checks to secure a wooden door.
