Woman of Caux in striped dress.

Woman of Caux in striped dress. She has removed the tall bonnet but wears its ties like a beguin. The artist has copied a headdress worn by a landlady at Yvetot. Her chignon hairpiece is evident. Hand-colored fashion plate illustration by Benoit Pecheux engraved by Gatine from Louis-Marie Lante's "Costumes des femmes du Pays de Caux," 1827/1885. With their tall Alsation lace hats, the women of Caux and Normandy were famous for the elegance and style.
