He afterwards taught for four years atMt. St. Marys refusing to receive the priesthood, and subsequently was a private tutor in the neighbor-hood of Albany. In he appears for the first time in the Catholic Directory as a priest of the dioceseof Vincennes. Probably he had been ordained by Bishop Brut6 who had known him at the Mountain. ?f ]^ote.—In that year Francis Vespre, a St. Marys Seminarian, from March, 1813, to November,1818, left for Rome for the purpose of joining the Society of Jesus. In the Catholic directory of1840, he is mentioned as being at Georgetown College procurator of the Rev. Stephen T. Badin,The first Priest ordained in the U. S., May 2^th, 1793.
