Electrical generator production. Engineer uses an oxyacetylene torch to solder a copper conductor of the barrel-like component (armature) of an electrical generator. Soldering is a welding process in which an easily-melted metallic alloy (the solder) is used to form a bond between two pieces of metal. The armature has conductors lying in longitudinal slits along its interior. The generator will induce an electric current in these by rotating a shaft (known as the rotor) with magnets on it (not seen here) within the armature. As it is the stationary part of this generator, the armature is known as the stator.
