A modern statue of St Edmund in a canopied niche on the C15th Perpendicular S porch of his church at Southwold, Suffolk, England, UK. The 1989 statue by Andrew Swinley shows Edward the Martyr, king of the East Angles 841-69, bound to a tree prior to being killed by Ingwar & the Great Army of the Vikings. The two-storey vaulted porch has a moulded entrance arch under a geometric frieze. There are shields & leaf trail in the spandrels. The whole porch is decorated with knapped flint flushwork.
